Jay Pinsky’s overall communications efforts represent many contributions including leadership, innovation, collaboration, heritage, and empowerment across our diverse and dynamic industry.
Jay took over editor duties of The Hunting Wire in 2020 and has since completed a full redesign of the newsletter, expanding content, developing new sections and delivering content important to both the hunting industry and those that participate in hunting.
By establishing an editorial structure based on local, state, and national R3 efforts, Jay created a vast digital communications platform that incorporated industry, nonprofit, local, state, and federal efforts to bring awareness, education, and advocacy to new hunters with a special emphasis toward adult onset and socially-disadvantaged members of the outdoor industry.
He created and founded The Hunting Wire Voice of Leadership Panel, brought together key industry leaders from the outdoor community of all experience levels to identify, debate, and solve key issues the hunting industry faces. His partnership with the National Rifle Association and Outdoor Stewards of Conservation Foundation gave the panel a balance of leadership, facilitation, and professional development found nowhere else in our industry.
In addition to the Voice of Leadership Panel, Jay created and deployed several key campaigns which directly contributed to the awareness, education, and advocacy of hunting. Key campaigns included his “Rookie Series,” which paired outdoor industry experts as mentors with the new adult onset and minority hunters to successfully experience hunting in a safe, educational, and empowering environment.
His “Hunting with Bob” series enabled youth to experience safe, mentored hunting with regional industry professionals. His Rookie Series work led to a national partnership with LSU’s collegiate “First Hunt” series which partnered outdoor industry leaders with LSU’s wildlife students to give them a safe, mentored, and educational indoctrination into hunting. Known as the Collegiate Rookie Series, Jay’s program brought national attention to LSU’s efforts to teach and empower future wildlife leaders toward a pro-hunting prerogative.
Jay is also a steadfast supporter of, and participant in, numerous military veteran programs for and supporting outdoor recreation and hunting. His constant media coverage and personal involvement resulted in local, state, and national awareness and involvement of the military veteran community.
Additionally, Jay quickly developed a reputation for identifying and mentoring new outdoor writers, pairing them with senior writers to serve as a safe, empowering environment for the next generation of outdoor writers to develop
Jim Curcuruto, Outdoor Stewards of Conservation Foundation’s Executive Director noted; “Jay’s creative, flexible, and transparent leadership as editor of The Hunting Wire exemplifies all outdoor communication platforms for engagement, inclusion, advocacy, and information. His dedication to his craft and the outdoor industry community is a credit to himself and his network of partners and peers. OSCF is proud to present Jay with our ‘2022 Outdoor Industry Communicator of the Year Award”.
